All-inclusive Riviera Maya packages 2026: Tulum, cenotes & eco-luxury.
130 km of Caribbean coastline between Puerto Morelos and Sian Ka'an. Eco-luxury resorts, oceanfront Mayan ruins, ancestral cenotes, and the world's second-largest coral reef. Curated by our local Cancun team.
Riviera Maya is the other Mexican Caribbean: more jungle, more cenotes, more calm.
While Cancun is noise, parties, and high-rises, Riviera Maya is tropical jungle, ancestral cenotes, and resorts integrated with nature. It's 130 kilometers of Caribbean coast starting at Puerto Morelos (south of Cancun's airport) and ending at the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. If Cancun is the #1 first-time destination, Riviera Maya is what people choose when they come back.
What makes Riviera Maya unique is the combination of four ecosystems along the same drive: the Mayan jungle (with jaguars, spider monkeys, and endemic birds), the cenotes (over 6,000 documented, formed by a meteor strike 66 million years ago), the second-largest coral reef in the world (right off Akumal and Puerto Morelos), and the best-preserved Mayan ruins in the Caribbean: Tulum (the only Mayan city built on the sea), Coba (with the tallest pyramid in Yucatan), and Muyil (immersed in jungle).
For 2026, Riviera Maya consolidates three key trends: eco-luxury all-inclusive resorts (Hotel Xcaret, Bahia Principe Luxury Akumal, Banyan Tree Mayakoba, Grand Velas, Conrad Tulum), wellness tourism (yoga retreats, temazcales, Mayan ceremonies), and regenerative experiences (turtle snorkeling in Akumal, Sian Ka'an biosphere tours, private cenotes in Mayan communities). It attracts a different kind of traveler: less party, more connection.
Riviera Maya differs from Cancun by its slower pace, better architectural quality (resorts blended into the landscape, not towers facing the sea), and real access to local culture. It's the favorite destination of European travelers, honeymooners, and anyone seeking a vacation to disconnect and reconnect.
The 4 zones of Riviera Maya. Each with its own personality.
Riviera Maya isn't a single destination, it's four micro-destinations with very different vibes. This honest guide helps you decide based on what you're looking for.

Riviera Maya weather is similar to Cancun (subtropical, 77°F average) but with key nuances: sargassum hits harder here than in Costa Mujeres, and cenotes are perfect year-round (always 75°F).
| Month | Weather | Sargassum | Akumal turtles | Recommendation |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| January | 72-82°F, dry | Low | Yes | Excellent: ideal weather, no sargassum, perfect cenotes |
| February | 72-84°F, dry | Low | Yes | Best month for Tulum without saturation |
| March | 75-88°F | Starts | Yes | Spring Break in Cancun zone, RM calmer |
| April | 79-90°F | Mid | Yes | Easter Week very expensive and crowded |
| May | 81-91°F | High | Yes (peak May-Jun) | Best month for turtles, watch for sargassum |
| June | 82-91°F, afternoon rain | High | Yes (peak) | Turtle peak, brief showers, low prices |
| July | 82-93°F | High | Yes | Vacations, full hotels, avoid Tulum |

Three honest facts about Riviera Maya seasons
1. Tulum has its own season rhythm. December-March is peak "Tulum lifestyle": private parties, packed beach clubs, international jet set. If that vibe doesn't appeal, travel between April and November when Tulum slows down and feels more authentic.
2. Akumal in May-July = turtle peak. Although turtles are present year-round, May to July is nesting season. If your only goal is to swim with them, those months are ideal despite sargassum. Turtles eat sargassum, so their population actually benefits.
3. Cenotes are perfect year-round. Unlike beaches, cenotes hold a constant 75°F, have no sargassum, and don't get crowded in high season (because they're in the jungle). If cenotes are your priority, any month works.
Cenotes, ruins, and must-do tours in Riviera Maya.
This is the cenote-densest area on the planet. Over 6,000 documented in the Yucatan Peninsula alone. These are the 6 essentials we recommend to first-timers, all under 90 minutes away.
Tulum (Archaeological Zone)
The only Mayan city built facing the Caribbean. El Castillo, Temple of the Descending God, view from the cliff to the turquoise ocean. Combine with a swim at Playa Paraíso (just below the ruins).
Snorkel with turtles in Akumal
Akumal Bay is a Protected Natural Reserve. Green and loggerhead turtles grazing on seagrass right at the shore. Guided visit with certified biologists (legally required).
Dos Ojos Cenote
Two-cenote system connected by an underwater cave, ideal for snorkel and cave diving. Visibility 165+ feet. Featured in National Geographic documentaries. 15 min from Tulum.
Coba + Multum-Há Cenote
Mayan ruins deep in jungle with Nohoch Mul pyramid (tallest in Yucatan). Bicycle tour inside the site. Combine with Multum-Há cenote, one of the most spectacular for swimming.
Sian Ka'an Lagoons
Biosphere Reserve. Boat tour through Mayan canals, snorkeling on virgin reef, mangroves with small crocodiles, and dolphins. The most natural and least touristy experience in all Riviera Maya.
Xcaret Mexico
Eco park with underground rivers, snorkeling, "Mexico Espectacular" show with 300 performers, food and drinks all day. Located between Playa del Carmen and Riviera Maya. Hotel Xcaret includes unlimited access.

Riviera Maya vs Cancun: which one's right for you?
It's the most common question we get. Honestly: they're complementary destinations, not competitors. Here's the side-by-side so you can decide based on your profile.
| Feature | Cancun | Riviera Maya |
|---|---|---|
| Vibe | Vibrant, urban, party | Slow, jungle, nature |
| Nightlife | World-class (Coco Bongo, Mandala) | Daytime, dinners, beach clubs |
| Hotel type | Beachfront towers | Resorts blended into jungle |
| Average price | $$ - $$$$ | $$$ - $$$$$ |
| Airport | 10-30 min | 35 min - 1.5 hr |
| Beaches | Public, white, wide | More bays, coves, snorkel |
| Sargassum | Variable (Costa Mujeres better) | Higher May-August |
| Cenotes | 1 hr away | 15-30 min from any hotel |
| Ruins | El Rey, Yamil Lu'um (small) | Tulum, Coba, Muyil (large) |
| Best for | First-time, young, party | Returning, couples, nature |
| Language | English universal | English in hotels, Spanish outside |
| Connectivity | Excellent (urban) | Good in hotels, weak outside |
Our honest recommendation: if it's your first time in the Mexican Caribbean, go Cancun. Easier, everything close, better value. If you already know Cancun or want something more authentic, go Riviera Maya. With 8-10 nights, consider splitting: 3 nights Cancun + 5 nights Riviera Maya. We'll build it for you on WhatsApp within 24 hours.
10 local tips only a Riviera Maya agency knows.
5 years operating in the area. We know hotels from the inside, real operators, and details online platforms won't tell you.
1. Tulum is NOT on the beach (the hotels are). The "Tulum town" sits 2.5 miles inland, where most cheap commerce is. The "Tulum hotel zone" is a narrow coastal strip with boutique hotels, beach clubs, and pricey restaurants. Confusing them when booking can cost you.
2. Cenotes charge separate entrance from the tour. If you buy a "cenote tour", verify if cenote entry ($3-10 USD) is included or charged separately. Most big operators charge it separately on arrival.
3. Akumal has strict turtle-swimming rules. It's a Protected Natural Area, with daily quota, MANDATORY certified guide, no sunscreen allowed (not even biodegradable near turtles), and life vest required. If anyone offers "free turtle snorkeling in Akumal," it's illegal.
4. The 307 is one single highway. All Riviera Maya is connected by one highway (Federal 307 Cancun-Chetumal). That means high-season traffic, especially Sundays returning to airport. Leave 1 extra hour margin.
5. Tulum has limited electricity. Many Tulum boutique hotels run on solar panels and generators. That means nightly power-downs, weak WiFi, and limited AC. It's not a bug, it's the "authentic experience" feature. Verify before if it bothers you.
6. Sargassum hits harder south. Marine current brings sargassum from the Atlantic to the whole coast, but Akumal-Tulum gets more and longer than Costa Mujeres-Puerto Morelos. If May-August and you hate sargassum, prefer northern RM zone or Cancun.
7. Mayakoba is a complex, not a town. When someone says "going to Mayakoba" they mean the private complex with Banyan Tree, Rosewood, Andaz, Fairmont. It's before Playa del Carmen coming from Cancun. Has freshwater navigable canals and PGA golf course. Not public, only access if you stay there.
8. The 307 has high taxi rates. Riviera Maya taxis are EXPENSIVE. Tulum to Akumal is 19 miles and can cost $35 USD. Better Uber/InDriver (legal in urban Tulum and Playa) or shared private transports. With package, transfers are included.
9. No cenote has fancy bathrooms. Cenotes are fragile ecosystems, so "facilities" tend to be basic showers and dry composting toilets. Don't expect premium lockers, restaurants, or spas. Bring your own towel and wet bag.
10. Hotel Xcaret includes Xcaret parks free. If you stay at Hotel Xcaret Mexico (between PDC and Akumal), the "All-Fun Inclusive" package includes unlimited access to Xcaret, Xel-Há, Xplor, Xenotes, Xichén, and Xavage during your stay. Probably the best "all-inclusive" in the Caribbean if parks interest you.

What our travelers ask us about Riviera Maya.
How much does an all-inclusive Riviera Maya package cost in 2026?
Riviera Maya packages 2026 start from $385 USD per person (3 nights, 4★ all-inclusive hotel, no flight). With flight from major US cities and 5★ premium resort, range is $970 to $2,500 USD per person depending on zone and tier. Tulum and Mayakoba are the priciest zones; Akumal and Puerto Aventuras offer best value.
What's the best zone to stay in Riviera Maya?
Depends on your profile. Tulum ideal for bohemian-chic experience with ruins and cenotes nearby. Akumal for swimming with turtles and premium snorkel. Puerto Aventuras for families seeking complete resort with golf and marina. Mayakoba if your budget allows quiet luxury. We'll decide it for you in 5 minutes via WhatsApp.
Does Riviera Maya have its own airport?
Yes and no. The new Tulum International Airport (TQO) opened December 2023 and operates flights since 2024, but coverage is still limited (mainly USA and Mexico City flights). Cancun airport (CUN) remains the main option with most connectivity. Your Cancun100 package includes private ground transfer from CUN: 35 min Puerto Morelos, 1 hr Akumal, 1.5 hr Tulum.
When is the best season for Riviera Maya?
Best price-weather-no-sargassum balance is November, early December, January, and February. To see Akumal turtles, May-July (but sargassum present). For cheapest month, September. Avoid Easter Week and last week of December for peak prices.
What does a Cancun100 Riviera Maya package include?
Lodging at chosen hotel (all-inclusive or European plan per package), round-trip flight to CUN if applicable, private door-to-door transfer CUN-hotel-CUN, package tours (Tulum, Akumal, cenotes, etc.), 24/7 WhatsApp follow-up with real human advisor throughout the trip, fiscal invoice from XPECTATIVE TRAVEL SRL DE CV.
How many nights do you recommend for Riviera Maya?
Minimum 5 nights to make it worthwhile (unlike Cancun where 3-4 work). Riviera Maya has more distances and deserves time. Recommended: 7 nights to combine relax + 3 tours (Tulum, Coba, Akumal or Sian Ka'an). To include Chichen Itza, minimum 8-9 nights.
Is it safe to swim with turtles in Akumal?
Totally. Akumal Bay is a Protected Natural Area with strict regulation: only certified guides can take visitors, daily quota, mandatory life vest, no touching turtles. The turtles are green and loggerhead, gentle, used to humans. Highest sighting probability May to July.
Is there sargassum in Riviera Maya?
Yes, especially May to August. Akumal-Tulum receives more sargassum than Puerto Morelos-Mayakoba. Hotels have brigades cleaning the beach daily. Some resorts (especially premium) have offshore floating barriers to reduce sargassum on their beaches. If high sargassum season, prioritize northern zones (Puerto Morelos, Mayakoba) or cenotes (perfect year-round).
Is Riviera Maya safe for traveling with kids?
Yes, especially Puerto Aventuras and Akumal zone. Resorts have kids club, water parks, swim-up rooms, hotel supervision, and 24/7 security. Tulum is less "kid-friendly" because its vibe is more adult. In 5 years with +1,000 clients and many family packages, no reported safety incidents.
Do I need a visa to enter Mexico?
Depends on your nationality. NO visa required: USA, Canada, EU, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Uruguay. Visa required: Cuba, Bolivia, Ecuador, India, China, Russia. Valid passport with at least 6 months remaining is always required. Latest info at Mexican Immigration.
Is Tulum expensive? How expensive?
Tulum is the most expensive destination in Riviera Maya, especially the coastal zone. Boutique restaurant dinner can run $50-100 USD per person, beachfront cabin $500-2,000 USD per night, and a beach club day $80-200 USD per person. To get the "Tulum experience" without breaking the budget, stay 10 minutes from center and eat in Tulum town (normal prices).
Can I combine Cancun and Riviera Maya in one trip?
Yes, recommended for stays of 8+ nights. Most popular: 3 nights Cancun (nightlife, first-time) + 5 nights Riviera Maya (relaxation, nature). We build combined package with single transfer, single invoice, and special rates. Ask your advisor about the "Mexican Caribbean combined package."
Can I customize my Riviera Maya package?
Yes, almost everything is customizable: change zone (Tulum vs Akumal vs Puerto Aventuras), change hotel, add or remove tours, extend nights, add Chichen Itza or Sian Ka'an, add private transport for all routes. Most clients end up with a custom-built package. Tell us what you need on WhatsApp and we'll build your custom package within 24 hours.
Does Hotel Xcaret include the parks?
Yes, the "All-Fun Inclusive" plan at Hotel Xcaret Mexico includes unlimited access to Xcaret, Xel-Há, Xplor, Xenotes, Xichén, and Xavage during your stay, plus food and drinks at hotel and parks. Probably the most complete "all-inclusive" in the Mexican Caribbean. Cancun100 handles preferred rates with this hotel; ask your advisor about the month's promotion.
