Playa del Carmen Vacation Packages 2026: Fifth Avenue, Cozumel & 100% Walkable Living.
The most cosmopolitan and pedestrian destination in the Mexican Caribbean. Fifth Avenue (La Quinta), the direct ferry to Cozumel, oceanfront beach clubs and an urban vibe no other destination has. Curated by our local team in Cancun.
Playa del Carmen is the Mexican Caribbean you walk, not drive through.
Cancun is a hotel zone of beachfront towers connected by boulevard. Riviera Maya is dispersed resorts in the jungle. Playa del Carmen is something different: a real Caribbean city with pedestrian streets, boutique nightlife, international gastronomy and direct connection to Cozumel. It's the only destination in the Mexican Caribbean where you can spend three full days without needing a taxi.
The heart is Fifth Avenue (Quinta Avenida or La Quinta): 2.5 miles (4 km) of pedestrian walkway with hundreds of restaurants, boutiques, cafes and bars, parallel to the Caribbean Sea one block from the beach. You walk, eat, swim, head back, dine, hit a beach club at sunset, end the night at Coco Bongo or Mandala. No taxis, no Uber, no distances. That's Playa del Carmen's unique promise.
The second major asset is the ferry to Cozumel. From the dock at the start of Fifth Avenue, every hour a ferry leaves and gets you to Cozumel in 45 minutes. For many travelers (especially divers and snorkelers), the real reason to stay in Playa del Carmen is Cozumel: one of the world's best diving coasts, part of the Mesoamerican Reef System, with 30+ meter visibility and legendary reefs like Palancar, Columbia and Santa Rosa Wall.
For 2026, Playa del Carmen consolidates three clear trends: boutique adults-only all-inclusive hotels (Hyatt Vivid, Hilton Adults Only, Wyndham Alltra, The Reef 28), family resorts in Playacar (Iberostar Selection, Riu Palace, Allegro), and the Hotel Xcaret complex with unlimited access to 6 parks (Xcaret, Xel-Há, Xplor, Xenotes, Xichén, Xavage) throughout your stay. Three completely different models for three types of travelers.
Important: although geographically Playa del Carmen sits within Riviera Maya, most travelers recognize it as an independent destination. And rightly so: it has its own character, its own gastronomic scene, its own nightlife and its own connection with Cozumel. That's why this page treats it as a separate destination.
The 4 zones of Playa del Carmen. Each with its own personality.
Playa del Carmen is compact but has four very distinct micro-destinations. This honest guide helps you decide based on the type of trip you're after.
Centro / Fifth Avenue
The pedestrian heart. Boutique adults-only all-inclusive hotels half a block from the sea and steps from the best restaurants. Nightlife on Calle 12. Ideal for couples, foodies and first-timers.
Playacar
Gated community with controlled access, 18-hole Robert von Hagge designed golf course, large family resorts and wide private beaches. 10 minutes walk from Fifth Avenue. Comfort and security.
Playa Norte / Coco Beach
North of Fifth Avenue (Calle 38 onwards). Mamita's, Coralina and Kool beach clubs. More relaxed atmosphere, boutique hotels with their own beach access. For groups and trendy vibe without saturation.
Hotel Xcaret zone
South of Playa del Carmen (Highway 307, km 282). Hotel Xcaret México and Hotel Xcaret Arte offer unlimited access to Xcaret, Xel-Há, Xplor, Xenotes, Xichén and Xavage throughout your stay. The most complete "all-inclusive" in the Caribbean.

Cozumel 45 minutes away by ferry. The reason many choose Playa.
If you stay in Cancun or Riviera Maya and want to visit Cozumel, you'll spend 4 hours round-trip on transport (ride + ferry + return). If you stay in Playa del Carmen, you have breakfast at 9 AM and you're snorkeling at Palancar by 10:30 AM.
🚢 Ferry Playa del Carmen → Cozumel
Departs from the dock at the beginning of Fifth Avenue (Calle 1 Norte). Main operators: Ultramar and Winjet. Departures every hour from 6 AM to 11 PM. 45-minute crossing in AC boat with Wi-Fi.
2026 fare: approximately $290 MXN one way or $580 MXN round trip (~$15-30 USD). Buy tickets at the dock box office or official app. Cancun100 tip: if you buy a package with us that includes a Cozumel tour, ferries are included in the price.
Why people go to Cozumel from Playa
World-class diving. Cozumel is part of the Mesoamerican Reef System (the planet's second largest), with 30+ meter visibility and water temperatures of 26-28°C year-round. Legendary sites: Palancar Reef, Santa Rosa Wall, Columbia Deep, Punta Sur. Most Caribbean diving documentaries are filmed here.
Premium snorkeling for non-divers. The reef starts 50 meters from shore in zones like El Cielo and Chankanaab. Snorkel with turtles, rays and tropical fish. Recommended operators from Playa: catamarans leaving from the Cozumel dock making 3 stops with open bar and food included.
Virgin beaches on the east side. Cozumel is a 30-mile-long island. The west side has the hotels, the east side (which you reach by motorbike or jeep) is virtually uninhabited: Playa Bonita, Punta Sur, Chen Río. A very different vibe from Playa del Carmen.
Island town atmosphere. San Miguel de Cozumel is a Caribbean town with a malecón, central plaza, local restaurants and cruise zone. More relaxed than Playa del Carmen, with prices 20-30% lower for dining out.
Is it worth staying overnight in Cozumel?
For 90% of our clients, NO. Cozumel is best enjoyed as a day trip from Playa del Carmen. Only if you're a certified diver doing 5+ dives, or want the island-town vibe, is it worth staying directly in Cozumel. For everyone else, the ferry from Playa is the most versatile option.
How do you travel to Playa del Carmen? There's a package for every profile.

Backpacker packages →What's the best month to visit Playa del Carmen?
Playa del Carmen's climate is subtropical (77°F annual average). Sargassum and nightlife are the two factors that change the experience most month-to-month.
| Month | Weather | Sargassum | Fifth Avenue | Recommendation |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| January | 72-82°F, dry | Low | Busy but not saturated | Excellent: ideal weather, no sargassum |
| February | 72-84°F, dry | Low | Calm | Best month for foodies, no lines |
| March | 75-88°F | Starts | Spring Breakers | Heads up: international young crowd |
| April | 79-90°F | Medium | Holy Week peak | Expensive and saturated |
| May | 81-91°F | High | Calm | Good prices, sargassum affects beach |
| June | 82-91°F, PM rain | High | Vacation | Brief afternoon showers, hotels full |
| July | 82-93°F | High | Saturated vacation | Tourist peak, avoid if you want calm |
| August | 82-93°F | High | Saturated vacation | Same as July + potential hurricanes |
| September | 81-90°F, rain | Medium | Empty | Cheapest month, high rain risk |
| October | 79-88°F | Low | Empty-calm | Good window: post-rainy season |
| November | 75-86°F | Low | Calm | Ideal weather, post-hurricanes, recommended |
| Dec 1-15 | 72-82°F | Low | Calm | Last window before holidays |
| Dec 16-31 | 72-82°F | Low | NYE world peak | New Year's in Playa is legendary, very expensive |
Three honest facts about Playa del Carmen seasons
1. Cozumel barely has sargassum. This is a game-changer. If you travel May-August and Playa del Carmen's beach has sargassum, you simply hop the ferry and spend the day in Cozumel where the water stays crystal clear. This is the main reason we recommend Playa over Tulum or Akumal during sargassum season.
2. New Year's Eve on Fifth Avenue is legendary. But also brutally expensive and saturated. Hotel rates triple and restaurants charge $150-400 USD per person for gala dinners. If you want the experience, book 6+ months in advance.
3. Spring Break (March) changes the character. American university students fill the Centro zone with intense party atmosphere. If you travel with family or a partner seeking calm, better avoid March or stay in Playacar (more sheltered from the noise).
Must-do tours from Playa del Carmen.
Playa del Carmen's location is strategic: 45 min by ferry to Cozumel, 5 min to Xcaret, 1 hour to Tulum, 2 hours to Chichen Itza. These are the 6 tours we recommend to first-time clients staying here.
Cozumel snorkel + beaches
Round-trip ferry from Fifth Avenue + full-day tour in Cozumel: reef snorkel (Palancar or Chankanaab), lunch at local restaurant, island tour by jeep or vehicle. If you only do one tour from Playa, make it this one.
Chichen Itza + Cenote + Valladolid
Departure from Playa del Carmen at 6 AM. Pyramid of Kukulkan, Temple of the Warriors, Ball Court. Then lunch in Valladolid (magical town) and refreshing dip in Ik Kil or Hubiku cenote. The most important cultural experience of your trip.
Xcaret full day
Xcaret eco-park 5 min from Playa del Carmen. Underground rivers, snorkeling, "México Espectacular" show with 300 artists, food and drinks all day. If you stay at Hotel Xcaret, it's included unlimited.
Tulum + Akumal turtles
Mayan ruins overlooking the Caribbean Sea + snorkel with green turtles in Akumal Bay. Perfect day combining culture and nature without going far. Tulum 1 hr away, Akumal 30 min from Playa.
Xplor (zip-lines & rappel)
Sister park to Xcaret, dedicated to adventure: 14 zip-lines, amphibious vehicles in jungle, rappel into cenotes, swimming in underground rivers. Night version "Xplor Fuego" with torches. 7 min from Playa del Carmen.
Río Secreto
System of cenotes and underground rivers 5 min from Playa del Carmen. Guided tour walking and swimming among stalactites. The most accessible and complete "cenote" experience for those who don't want to drive 1 hr to Tulum.

Playa del Carmen vs Cancun vs Riviera Maya: which suits you?
It's the most common question we get on WhatsApp. Here's the honest answer from someone who sells all three every day.
| Feature | Playa del Carmen | Cancun | Riviera Maya |
|---|---|---|---|
| Atmosphere | Cosmopolitan, walkable | Vibrant, urban | Slow-paced, nature |
| Nightlife | Boutique (Calle 12) | World-class (Coco Bongo) | Dinners, daytime beach clubs |
| Walkable | ✅ 100% | ⚠️ Hotel zone only | ❌ Scattered resorts |
| Cozumel Access | 45-min ferry ⭐ | 2 hrs + ferry | 1.5-2 hrs + ferry |
| Hotel type | Urban boutique + Playacar | Beachfront towers | Jungle-integrated resorts |
| Average price | $$ - $$$$ | $$ - $$$$ | $$$ - $$$$$ |
| Airport | 50-60 min | 10-30 min | 35 min - 1.5 hr |
| Gastronomy | Best scene in Mexican Caribbean | Good but hotel-based | Limited (in hotels) |
| Sargassum | Variable May-August | Costa Mujeres better | Heavier in Akumal-Tulum |
| Cenotes | Río Secreto 5 min away | 1 hr distance | 15-30 min from any hotel |
| Best for | Foodies, divers, returning | First-timers, young, party | Wellness, couples, nature |
Our honest recommendation:
If it's your first time in the Mexican Caribbean and you're traveling solo or with friends, go to Cancun. Easier, everything close, better mainstream nightlife.
If you've already been to Cancun or want something more urban and cosmopolitan with diving in Cozumel, go to Playa del Carmen. Especially if you enjoy walking and trying different restaurants every night.
If you're after nature, cenotes, Mayan ruins and a more relaxed/wellness vibe, go to Riviera Maya (Tulum, Akumal).
If you have 10+ nights, consider splitting: 3 nights Cancun + 4 nights Playa + 3 nights Tulum/RM. We'll build it for you on WhatsApp in 24 hours as a single package with better prices.
10 local tips about Playa del Carmen only a local agency knows.
We've been operating in the area for 5 years. We know the hotels from the inside, the real operators, and the details online platforms won't tell you.
1. Fifth Avenue has 3 zones with different personalities. From the dock (Calle 1) to Calle 14 is the most touristy-saturated (watch for aggressive vendors). From Calle 14 to 38 is the "trendy" zone with the best restaurants and design boutiques. From Calle 38 onwards (Coco Beach) is more relaxed with beach clubs and local vibe.
2. Calle 12 is the party street. Crosses Fifth Avenue at the level of Calle 12. This is where Coco Bongo PDC, Mandala, Palazzo, La Vaquita and the heavier clubs are. If you stay nearby, expect noise until 4 AM in high season.
3. Coco Bongo PDC is NOT the same as Coco Bongo Cancun. The Cancun one is the original, larger, with better production. The Playa one is more compact and feels more intimate. If you want the "full Coco Bongo" experience, the trip to Cancun is worth it (45 min by ADO bus).
4. Mamita's Beach Club is the OG, but Coralina is the new favorite. Mamita's has been Playa del Carmen's reference for 20 years, but lost some soul. Coralina (same group) opened 3 years ago with the updated fresh vibe. Both charge minimum consumption of $20-35 USD per person.
5. The Cozumel ferry is bought at the dock. No need to book online (which charges commission). Arrive 30 min early at the dock box office, pay cash or card, and board. In high season there can be 20-min lines, especially for the evening return (5-7 PM).
6. Playacar has a free public beach. Even though it's a gated community with resorts, there's public access to the beach via Privada Allegro street. Anyone can go, bring a cooler, grill some meat (carefully), spend the day. Free option if you're staying at a hotel without its own beach.
7. The Highway 307 gas station is cheaper than the downtown ones. If you rent a car in Playa del Carmen, fill up at the Pemex station on Highway 307 before returning to the airport. Downtown Playa stations charge 25-40 cents more per gallon.
8. Hotel Xcaret charges some "amenities" separately. Although marketed as "All-Fun Inclusive," some experiences inside the parks (guided snorkeling, biking, professional photos) carry additional cost. Ask for the exact breakdown before booking.
9. Uber works fine in Playa del Carmen. Unlike Cancun (where taxi drivers attacked Uber for years), in Playa Uber operates normally. Fares 30-40% cheaper than traditional taxi. InDriver also works very well.
10. Environmental sanitation is a real fee, not a scam. Hotels in Quintana Roo charge a "saneamiento ambiental" of $1.50-2.50 USD per room per night, NOT included in the package rate. It's municipal law, we can't bypass it, they charge it directly at check-out. Just keep it in mind so you're not surprised.
More than 1,000 travelers have already chosen the Mexican Caribbean with us.
Real reviews verified on Google Business over 5 years of local operation. No filters, no makeup.
"Hyatt Vivid + Cozumel = the perfect combination."
5 nights at adults-only Hyatt Vivid + 2 days diving in Cozumel. Cancun100 got us preferential rates and PADI certificates were ready upon arrival. Returning in 2027.
"Iberostar Selection Playacar is perfect with kids."
We booked a family package for 5 (2 adults, 3 kids). Kids club, water park, golf for my husband. The advisor solved a room change for us upon arrival. No stress.
"Hotel Xcaret + 6 parks without paying extra entry."
Unlimited access to Xcaret, Xel-Há, Xplor, Xichén and Xenotes during 7 nights. The kids didn't want to leave. Cancun100 got us a better price than the hotel's direct website. Unbeatable.
What our travelers ask us about Playa del Carmen.
How much does an all-inclusive Playa del Carmen package cost in 2026?
Playa del Carmen 2026 packages start from $385 USD per person (3 nights at 4★ all-inclusive hotel, no flight). With flight from Mexico City and 5★ premium resort in Centro or Playacar, the range goes from $1,090 to $2,955 USD per person depending on zone and level.
Is Playa del Carmen the same as Riviera Maya?
Geographically Playa del Carmen sits within Riviera Maya, but touristically they're different destinations. Most travelers associate Riviera Maya with Tulum, Akumal and cenotes (nature and eco-luxury zones), while Playa del Carmen has its own identity: a pedestrian Caribbean city with Fifth Avenue, cosmopolitan life and a direct connection with Cozumel. That's why we treat it as an independent destination.
What's the best zone to stay in Playa del Carmen?
Depends on your profile. Centro / Fifth Avenue ideal for couples and foodies wanting everything walkable. Playacar for large families or golfers wanting a complete, gated resort. Coco Beach / Playa Norte for friend groups or trendy vibe. Hotel Xcaret zone if you want unlimited included parks. We can decide it for you in 5 minutes via WhatsApp.
How do I get to Playa del Carmen from Cancun airport?
Via federal Highway 307, a 4-lane freeway with small tolls. Transfer takes 50-60 minutes under normal conditions. Your Cancun100 package includes private door-to-door transfer in SUV or van with AC. If you prefer public options: ADO bus from the airport terminal at $15-20 USD, arrives at the ADO Playa del Carmen terminal on Fifth Avenue.
Is it worth going to Cozumel from Playa del Carmen?
100% yes. Cozumel is one of the world's best diving coasts, with 30+ meter visibility and ideal water temperature year-round. Even if you don't dive, the snorkeling is premium (reef close to shore). 45-min ferry from Fifth Avenue, hourly departures. For 90% of travelers it's a 1-day excursion; only if you're a serious diver should you consider sleeping in Cozumel.
When is the best season for Playa del Carmen?
The best balance of price-weather-no sargassum is November, first half of December, January and February. If you're looking for the cheapest month, September. Avoid Holy Week, the last week of December and Spring Break (March) if you want calm. The good news: Cozumel is perfect year-round, so even in sargassum season you always have a Plan B.
What does a Cancun100 Playa del Carmen package include?
Accommodation at the selected hotel (all-inclusive or European Plan according to package), round-trip flight to CUN if applicable, private door-to-door transfer CUN-hotel-CUN, the package's tours (Cozumel, Tulum, Xcaret, etc.), 24/7 WhatsApp follow-up with a real human advisor throughout the trip, and tax invoice issued by XPECTATIVE TRAVEL SRL DE CV.
How many nights do you recommend for Playa del Carmen?
Minimum 4 nights to make the most of it (1 day arrival/Fifth Avenue, 1 day Cozumel, 1 day Xcaret or Tulum, 1 day relaxation). Recommended: 5-7 nights if you want to combine Fifth Avenue + Cozumel + 2 large tours (Chichen Itza, Xcaret). If traveling with family and planning Hotel Xcaret with all parks, minimum 6-7 nights.
Is there sargassum in Playa del Carmen?
Yes, especially between May and August. Hotels have brigades cleaning the beach daily. The big advantage of staying here: if Playa del Carmen's beach has sargassum, you simply take the ferry to Cozumel (45 min) where natural currents keep the water crystal clear practically year-round. This is the main reason we recommend Playa over Tulum/Akumal during sargassum season.
Is Playa del Carmen safe?
Fifth Avenue and tourist zones (Centro, Playacar, Coco Beach, Hotel Xcaret zone) are safe day and night, with constant tourist police presence. As in any city, avoid distant areas late at night, don't show off cash, and use Uber instead of unmarked night taxis. In 5 years with +1,000 clients in Playa, we haven't had any reported security incidents.
Do I need a visa to enter Mexico?
Depends on your nationality. NO visa required: USA, Canada, European Union, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Uruguay. VISA required: Cuba, Bolivia, Ecuador, India, China, Russia. Valid passport with at least 6 months remaining is always mandatory. If you're heading to Cozumel/Playa, the VISITAX (~$15 USD) is also mandatory for foreigners and paid online.
Does Hotel Xcaret really include all 6 parks?
Yes, the "All-Fun Inclusive" plan at Hotel Xcaret México and Hotel Xcaret Arte includes unlimited access to Xcaret, Xel-Há, Xplor, Xenotes, Xichén Deluxe and Xavage throughout your stay, plus food and drinks at the hotel and parks (with free transportation). It's probably the most complete "all-inclusive" in the Mexican Caribbean. Cancun100 manages preferential rates with this hotel; ask your advisor about the monthly promotion.
Can I combine Cancun, Playa del Carmen and Riviera Maya in one trip?
Yes, we recommend it for 8+ night stays. Most popular: 3 nights Cancun (nightlife, first time) + 4 nights Playa del Carmen (Fifth Avenue + Cozumel) + 3 nights Tulum (cenotes, ruins). We arrange a combined package with single transfer, single invoice and special pricing. Ask your advisor about the "Mexican Caribbean tri-package".
Can I customize my Playa del Carmen package?
Yes, almost everything is customizable: change zone (Centro vs Playacar vs Coco Beach vs Hotel Xcaret), change hotel, add or remove tours, extend nights, add Chichen Itza or Cozumel, add certified diving in Cozumel, add private transport for all routes. Most clients end up with a unique tailor-made package. Tell us what you're looking for via WhatsApp and we'll build your custom package in under 24 hours.
How do I book and pay?
The process is: 1) message us on WhatsApp with your dates and preferred zone, 2) in under 24 hours we send a formal quote with preliminary voucher, 3) book with 30% deposit (or single payment with 5% discount), 4) remainder due 30 days before travel.
